One week on the Ice.

So it has been seven days down on the Ice for me today. I figure this is a good time to share with you more of my adventures that I have been on in the past few days as well as some of my job happenings.

So as far as my job goes, I am an Air Transportation Specialist-Apprentice. Basically I am a cargo handler. So far I have been doing a lot of training. I am learning all about operating heavy equipment and how to build and handle cargo. I am loving it. I will have a future update with more about my job and hopefully some great pictures to show you what I am working with and on! But I did find out the team I will be working on for the rest of the season. I am pretty happy with it! We will be working nights for the first half of the season.

So one of my recent adventures took me to the Crary Lab on base. It is the big science facility where most of the inside research goes on. It is an amazing place and I am sure I will have future updates with happenings from there. This time a was on a small tour that a ton of people decided to attend, so I didn't get the full effect. But I did get a few picture here and there.

These were some interesting little fish that were curious about anyone to come up to the tank. Since they never see anything like us they aren't really afraid.

They had a touch tank were you could touch stuff..  If you dare!

Last night I made a trip over to Scott Base for American night. It is a Kiwi (New Zealand) base and we can only visit when they invite us. They have a cool little store there and some great views! The seals also like to hang out over there!

Giant snow slugs.

That is Observation hill to the right. Soon to be hiked.
Loving it more and more with each day here. I'll give you a sneak peek at my dorm room to see what living quarters at like for me!

Hello, Antarctica.

I made it! I am at a lose for words. It's like, well, nothing I have seen before.

So I feel like I will show you a few picture from my short stay in Christchurch, NZ. It is a pretty sweet place as well. It is a a beautiful place, but there is still a lot of destruction to be seen from the quake that happened last February. I'll let my pictures do the talking.

So while I was in Christchurch I walked around the "red zone" for a bit and took a trip through the botanic gardens!

So I haven't been able to take many pictures since I made it to the Ice. Here are a few from the flight down and a couple from last night. The department I work in, Antarctic Terminal Operations (ATO) put on a party. Then a few people and I went to the bars after!
